| Sergeant Lloyd and Deputy William Nalley were killed when their helicopter crashed as they were preparing to search for a serial rapist. The officers were flying the helicopter from one airport to the Charleston International Airport when it crashed less then one mile after takeoff.
Sergeant Lloyd had been with the agency for 20 years.
Hubert Leander Lloyd's name has been engraved at the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, DC. His name can be located on panel 23, W -19.
A plaque bearing Hubert Leander Lloyd's name is displayed at the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Hall of Fame in Columbia.
