 | Robert Anthony Way North Charleston Police Department Monday, February 18, 1985
| Officer Way was shot and killed by a person angry at the police. The suspect had been arrested a week earlier for breaking into a bar and was out on bond. He was seeking revenge on the police officers who had arrested him and went back to the same bar, set the alarm off and waited for the police to arrive. Officer Way confronted the suspect and was shot once in the chest. Officer Way returned fire striking the suspect five times, killing him.
Officer had been with the agency for one year and was survived by his wife and son.
Robert Anthony Way's name has been engraved at the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, DC. His name can be located on panel 4, E -5.
A plaque bearing Robert Anthony Way's name is displayed at the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Hall of Fame in Columbia.
