Deputy Gary Blackwood was electrocuted when he attempted to move a downed power line from the roadway, at the scene of an accident caused by a drunk driver.
Gary Douglas Blackwood's name has been engraved at the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, DC. His name can be located on panel 16, W -16.
A plaque bearing Gary Douglas Blackwood's name is displayed at the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Hall of Fame in Columbia.
