Police Retirement Lawsuit






Snyder Lee Risher

Charleston Police Department

Friday, May 06, 1932


Policeman Risher killed when a vehicle he pulled over drove him into a tree. He had pulled the vehicle over on St. Phillips Street and had stepped onto the running board. The driver, who was driving without a city operator's permit, sped away with Policeman Risher still on the running board. When Policeman Risher pulled his pistol the driver sideswiped a tree, knocking Policeman Risher into it.

Policeman Risher had been with the agency for four months and was survived by his wife and several children.

Snyder Lee Risher's name has been engraved at the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, DC. His name can be located on panel 15, W -10.

A plaque bearing Snyder Lee Risher's name is displayed at the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Hall of Fame in Columbia.
