To
obtain a South Carolina Fraternal Order of Police license plate, visit
your local South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles office. During
the registration process, DMV officials will need
your current registration, insurance card, and
current year's Fraternal
Order of Police membership card. The fee is $30.00 plus the regular registration
fee.
These
plates can only be issued to active members in good standing of
the FOP. If you would like to obtain a license plate and are not a member,
contact one of the local lodges or the state
executive director to learn
how to join. Active membership is only granted to full-time or retired
law enforcement officers.
Any individual who is not an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police who is displaying a FOP tag on their vehicle is in violation of South Carolina law 56-3-5400 and is subject to a fine or jail. If you received a letter concerning your eligibilty to display the FOP tag you may mail your response to FOP Tag, 220 Coachman Dr., Lexington, SC 29072 or you may call 866-347-2367.
Any lodge which locates an individual who may be displaying a FOP tag improperly, may use the State Lodge President's letter to inform the violator. The President has provided instructions on how to handle this type of situation. You may download those instructions [ here ].
